Meet Chief Tucker!

Chief Craig M. Tucker is a lifelong resident of Rush County growing up in Arlington. He graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School in 1999 and Franklin College with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice in 2003. Chief Tucker graduated from the 158th Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2004.

Chief Tucker was hired by the Rushville Police Department in August 2003 after graduating from Franklin College. After completing field training and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, his first duty assignment was third shift patrol. During his patrol career, Chief Tucker rose through the ranks as a Corporal, Sergeant, and finally as a Lieutenant overseeing the Patrol Division. In 2011, Tucker was promoted to the position of Assistant Chief of Police, attaining the rank of Major under then Chief of Police Ron Cameron. Craig Tucker was appointed to the position of Chief of Police under Mayor Michael Pavey’s administration effective January 1, 2012. Chief of Police Craig Tucker has served continuously in this capacity since the appointment.

During his tenure, Chief Tucker has served in many capacities beyond administration. Chief Tucker is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certified instructor and proudly serves as an in-service education instructor and as a STOPS Instructor teaching new and seasoned officers the proper tactics of patrol-based pedestrian and traffic stops. Chief Tucker is a past Law Enforcement Liaison for the Rush County Addictions Intervention Court (Drug Court), a program giving support and resources to individuals working to overcome their substance dependency. Chief Tucker is a past president and current member of the Rush County Local Coordinating Council (LCC), the planning and coordinating body for addressing alcohol and drug problems in our student body and community. In 2023, Chief Tucker became the Law Enforcement Coordinator for the Rush County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) where he continues to advocate for mental health awareness and treatment. Chief Tucker is a past secretary and current member of the Rush County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #117 and a current member of the Indiana Chiefs of Police Association.

Chief Tucker oversees 13 Sworn Police Officers, 6 Communications Officer, and several part-time Communications Officers and Reserve Police Officers. Together they strive to be anywhere at anytime to help anyone with anything.
